WHO IS KAZEEM KUTEYI?
A creative person working to preserve truths and introduce new ideas in multiple mediums whether it be in dialogue, music, art and design. In short, a cultural curator. Most people know me as the guy behind New Currency, a global platform that documents ideas from around the world.
WHAT IS YOUR CORE PHILOSOPHY?
God first! Follow my truth, humility always, and be in service to my community.
WHO WAS YOUR EARLIEST INSPIRATION GROWING UP?
My older brother Tyson! Through his actions, everything just comes down to hard work, dedication and being a nice and humble person. It doesn’t hurt to be funny as well!
WHAT IS THE CREATIVE ENERGY LIKE IN TORONTO?
It’s exciting ! I get to hang out with some of the best creative people in the city. It’s small, so there is a supportive system around everyone. I always say Toronto is the best city to prototype your ideas.
FAVOURITE BRAND AT THE MOMENT?
FAVOURITE CITY TO LIVE IN?
London! I’ve been fortunate enough to build a community here and flourish. Also, I love club culture here.
FAVOURITE CITY TO DJ IN?
I once did a 5 hour b2b set with my friends in Paris, the energy was high but I think it has to be Toronto because I usually love having all my friends around when I DJ.
DO YOU BELIEVE IN THE IDEA OF ARTISTS RETIRING?
I don’t think you can ‘retire' from expressing yourself.
FAVOURITE THING ABOUT BEING NIGERIAN?
Cracking stupid jokes in Yoruba and broken english. Also, there is hustle energy in my bloodstream.
DO YOU CONSIDER YOURSELF A RENAISSANCE MAN?
I think I’ll let the people decide on that one.
LAST BOOK YOU READ?
Poor by Caleb Femi. That’s a must-read.
